We are excited to be able to offer this brandnew ‘hands on’ modular course, designed to equip the student with the knowledge and skills needed in today’s workplace or for further study. The course will extend the student’s understanding of the personal attributes valued by employers and the principles of effective communication in order to use ICT effectively and be able to address personal development needs. Students will learn to understand the components of computer systems, be able to recommend computer systems for a business purpose, and be able to set up and maintain computer systems. Students will also develop skills in a range of software applications, including database software, which is a highly sought-after skill in the workplace. Progression in the subject will lead to exploring modules in the possible areas of digital graphics, the design of computer games and Internet technologies.
Further Details
Courses that link particularly well with this course are those offered in the Business department or creative media courses. So, if you have an interest in business, IT and have a creative spark, please apply. Prior study is not required, but students who have passed this subject at level 2 have an advantage. To be successful on this course, students should feel relatively confident in their ability to use a suite of software.
Progression Options
Students who are successful at Certificate level may wish to complete an additional year to achieve the Subsidiary Diploma qualification. This will provide a good basis for studying the IT related subjects at a higher level, and as part of a wider programme the course provides for progression to a wide range of Higher Education or employment. The study of IT will support a career in a wide range of areas. Studying ICT alongside Business Studies would be a strong combination for any career in business.
