Business Academy students from King Edward VI College visited Warwick University Student Union for a taste of University life.
King Edward VI College in Nuneaton is affiliated to national charity Career Academies UK to run the Business Academy Programme, which provides young people with higher education experiences, workplace visits and a six-week internship.
The students were given a tour of the Student Union and sports facilities by Gerard Henry, The Students Activities Development Manager. During the tour the students learnt how the nightclub, bars and food outlets are run to fund the student activities and how Warwick SU is a self sustaining operation and why good marketing and branding is essential to a successful business.
This was followed by a Q&A session where students had the chance to have all their queries answered and find out more about how the business side of the Union worked.
The students then took part in a workshop led by Marketing Officer Jacqui Smyth. The aim of the session was to explore new ideas for an end of term event taking into consideration all the marketing aspects required. The end result was a marketing plan including specific audiences together with a timeline.
Student Sam Hall said “It was great to experience University life for the first time.”
Robbie Gibbens went on to say “Looking around Warwick University showed me that University was much more than just learning. You need to become an independent person and stand on your own two feet. The facilities that are available for use for clubs and societies are state of the art and the choice of societies to join was huge!”
Administrator for the Business Academy Gayle Page said “The college would like to thank all the businesses who help support our students, in particular Santander who funded this trip. We would also like to thank Warwick University and all the staff involved on the day. It was a great experience for our students and it was clear to see they were inspired.”
