Kathryn lives in Hinckley and went to John Cleveland College. Kathryn is studying English Language, English Literature, Psychology and Religious Studies.
Why did you choose KEC? I came to KEC for quite a few reasons. The open evening, first of all, sparked my interest. Not only were the teachers immensely passionate about their subjects, but there was also a very relaxed atmosphere about the college. Secondly, they offered a subject I would not have otherwise been able to do - 'English Language'. This subject has not only been enjoyable but also greatly enhanced my university application when it came to applying for English at degree level. Thirdly, the induction day gave me a real taste of what it was like to be at KEC - surrounded by a friendly and diverse range of people who were as interested in academia as me. By then, I knew that it was a great place to learn, socialise, and get the qualifications I needed for the future.
What do you like best about the college?
What I like best about the college is most definitely the teachers. They offer really great support, whether you're struggling with a particularly hard part of the course, or simply interested in taking your subject knowledge further.
What other activities have you done while at college?
Well, in my first year I took part in a club me and my friends set up after college on Wednesdays called 'acoustic jamming'. This year, me and my friend set up a book club, and the weeks that it's not on, I attend creative writing classes after college. I also took part in the George Eliot play this year, even though I usually shy away from such things, it was a great thing to be involved in, and I'd definitely recommend it!
What are your future plans?
I hope to get the grades required for my university offer in my last set of exams (All going well so far!) and read English at Cambridge University. After that, I hope to continue my studies to postgraduate level, and possibly even PhD level. I either want to be a university professor or a radio presenter. A bit of a contrast, I know.
