FOOTBALL ACADEMY CONFIRMED
Â
King Edward VI College and Nuneaton Town FC have officially confirmed that they will be starting their joint Football Academy in September 2012.
The football academy will operate as a joint venture with Nuneaton Town FC allowing students interested in following a career in the football industry to experience not only practical coaching, but also gain academic qualifications.
This exciting opportunity is available to all 16 – 19 year olds who are students at the college. They will receive high quality coaching from Nuneaton Town coaches, lead by Steve Farmer throughout the week.
Students will also play each Wednesday afternoon in the British College’s Leagues and Cups as well as have the chance to progress further within the Nuneaton Town FC set up.
In addition to the coaching, students will also have the opportunity to undertake Sports Leader’s awards and qualifications in both coaching and officiating.
Nuneaton Town Chairman Ian Neale said “As part of ongoing Community Foundation work, linking up with KEC provides a perfect partnering arrangement to continue and reach out and offer opportunities to young people in the area.â€
In addition to this practically based academy, KEC will also be introducing several new BTEC Sports courses to next September’s academic programme alongside the existing AS and A-Level PE courses.Â
At a time when funding nationally has been stopped for all College Sports, the college has seen fit to fund this initiative.
The college PE and Sport co-ordinator James Barton said “Having a formal partnership with Nuneaton Town FC is fantastic and a real first for the town. We are expanding all aspects of PE and Sport at the college and to do this in conjunction with the club is great. It can only help to increase the sporting provisions, experiences and ability of 16 – 19 year olds both at KEC and within the Warwickshire areaâ€
To become part of the Academy students will need to enroll at the College. For those who are interested in signing up to the Academy, KEC Sport and P.E Coordinator, James Barton will be at the McDonald’s Football Festival Day at Nuneaton Town FC on Sunday April 22nd with further information.
Further details can be found by contacting the College directly or by attending the Open Evening on May 3rd 5.30-7.30pm.
