Introduction
This course will enable students to develop an understanding of the subject by using legal concepts and applying them to practical situations in every day life. Law is suitable for students who have an interest in politics, business and wider current affairs. It includes some aspects of criminal and contract law.
The course will be of particular interest to those who enjoy debating, problem solving and looking at issues from a critical point of view. In general, students studying this course will have an interest in reading newspapers and watching serious current affairs programs on television. Skills that will be developed are problem solving, and making and defending cogent arguments. This course provides an excellent grounding in the subject and is very helpful to all students in developing their thinking skills. It is also ideal for students who wish to pursue a law-related degree course at university. Themes and topics that are relevant to this course include: the Courts, the Police, Legal professions, Criminal Law and Contract Law.

Subjects that link particularly well with this course are: Politics, Business Studies, Critical Thinking, Citizenship, English and Mathematics. There are trips and visits including one to the Crown Court in Birmingham. Students are not expected to have any prior learning in this subject. To be successful on the course students should feel relatively confident intheir ability to write well thought out arguments, read widely and develop an interest in current affairs.
Progression Options
Law A-Level is welcomed at the majority of British universities as preparation for a Law degree. As part of a wider programme the course provides an excellent basis for progression to any career or university course. Law will support a career in a wide range of areas, including qualifying as a Solicitor or Barrister. The analytical and critical skills developed in this course are valued by employers and universities alike.
